International Day Plant Health (IDPH)

 FAO plans to observe this important occasion by hosting a three-hour session on May 12, 2022. The session will include the participation of policy leaders and technical experts from around the world.

 This year’s IDPH will build on the IYPH momentum under the slogan “Protecting plants, protecting life” and linking “Plant health innovation for food security” and highlighting the 70th Anniversary of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).

 The goal of the event is to continue to raise awareness of the importance of plant health for food security, environmental protection and trade facilitation, with the following six specific objectives:

o Increasing the awareness among public and policy makers of the importance to keep plants healthy to achieve the UN 2030 Agenda, and particularly SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger).

o Campaigning to minimize the risk of spreading plant pests through trade and travel.

o Triggering higher compliance with international plant health standards.

o Keeping plants healthy while protecting the environment through integrated pest management.

o Promoting investment in plant health innovations, research, capacity development and outreach; and

o Strengthening monitoring and early warning systems to protect plants and plant health.

 FAO will provide simultaneous interpretation of the event in all six UN languages.

 The FAO Office of Communication is in the process of finalizing this year’s IDPH logo and other graphic products that could be used by the IPPC community.
